Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Warman — the game, the tech, and the community.
What is Warman?
Warman is a hack-and-slash action RPG focused purely on combat, loot, and character progression. There are no cutscenes, no dialogue trees, and no filler quests. You create a hero, fight through procedurally-generated dungeons, gather loot with random modifiers, and grow stronger. Play solo or with up to 7 friends in online co-op.
What platforms is Warman available on?
Warman is available on Windows, macOS (including Apple Silicon), and Linux. It is sold exclusively on Steam. Steam Deck is supported with controller button glyphs.
Is Warman free to play?
No. Warman is a paid game available on Steam. There are no microtransactions, no battle passes, and no in-game purchases. You buy the game once and get everything.
How many players does Warman support?
Up to 8 players in online co-op. One player hosts and the others join through Steam. Singleplayer is fully supported with the same content and no compromises.
Does Warman have mod support?
Yes. Warman ships with a built-in level editor, a scripting language called WarScript, and Steam Workshop integration. You can create new maps, enemies, quests, and entire game modes. The base game itself loads as a mod. Custom scenarios use the exact same system.
What engine is Warman built with?
Warman is built in Unity, but with heavy custom systems. The terrain, pathfinding, physics, networking, and serialization are all custom-built. Unity is primarily used as a rendering and audio engine. The multiplayer uses a deterministic lockstep simulation that runs independently of Unity physics.
How does multiplayer work?
Warman uses lockstep networking. Only player inputs are synchronized. The game state is never sent. Every client runs the same deterministic simulation. Steam users get Valve relay networking for NAT traversal. Non-Steam builds use direct UDP.
Is there a class system?
Yes, but it is freeform. Your class is determined by your equipped weapon, not a permanent choice. Equip a bow and you are an Archer. Swap to a sword and you become a Warrior. There are five classes: Warrior, Archer, Bandit, Fire Mage, and Wind Mage. Switch at any time.
What happens when you die?
Nothing harsh. You lose no gear, no experience, and no progress. Allies can revive you, or you respawn and jump back in. Warman is designed to be fun, not punishing.
Does Warman have controller support?
Yes. Controller support was added in Update 2.0. Combat works well with a controller. Steam Deck is supported with proper button glyphs.
Is Warman still in development?
Warman has left Early Access and is fully released. Development continues with new content, modding features, and engine improvements. Check the roadmap for planned features.
Who made Warman?
Warman is developed by a solo developer. The publisher is indie.io.
